Metal Head

During the Republican National Convention, Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan said that the one thing that he and Mitt Romney, the next President of the United States differed in was their taste in Music. Ryan's list started with AC/DC and ended with Zeppelin.

When I'm driving or when I'm in a rowdy mood, there is nothing that I like better than Metalica. I do understand that may not brand me as a 'conservative' but then again, how conservative is Ted Nugent? (call him a liberal at your peril)

I don't have a metal plate in my skull that I can use to crush beer cans, but I think that I'm a metal head all the same. However, I'm also a Parrot Head and that makes for an interesting contrast.

Whiskey in the Jar is Metallica's take on Thin Lizzy's take on an old Irish ballad. But they do rock it in an interesting way that the old Irish never contemplated.

Enter Sandman is one that I used to play for my daughter Emilie, now 21 when she was a teenager and needed to go to sleep. I know that sounds unconventional, but she liked it. Then again, that's Emilie.

Nothing Else Matters

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

  2. To me, the last couple minutes of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is the best thing ever recorded.

    1. Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
      Just labeled mentally deranged

Oh yeah, baby! I had to pick a couple to post on the blog but the whole Master of Puppets album is classic, and Welcome Home Sanitarium is the poster child of cool.

  3. Whiskey in the Jar is both grand music and a splendid after-dinner beverage.

    1. The softer side of Metalica - and it shows their range of both production and understanding audio entertainment.

  5. I've moved on from Metalica...my iPod has Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed...and a little John Denver to slow things down.

...and the next VP is part of my generation.

    1. The only John Denver on my iPod is "Saturday night in Toledo Ohio"

    2. I think I'll be pushing up daisies when I'm so old that Metalica becomes elevator music.
