In the wake of the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting, there has been a new cry from firearms control advocates calling for stricter rules on the sale of arms and ammunition to US Citizens.
Since when did criminals pay ANY attention to those rules?
In Mexico, private ownership of firearms is strictly limited to bolt action rifles, shotguns less than 12 gauge and handguns under .380 caliber. Given this, the drug cartels don't seem to be having any problems acquiring firearms and ammunition and using them in contravention of the law.
And before you suggest that those arms come from the US, think again. The Obama Administration had BATF sell firearms to drug cartels in the hopes that they'd be seized and their thesis of US arms being sent to Mexico would be upheld. The plain truth is that a very small percentage of illegal arms in Mexico in the hands of the drug cartels originated in the US.
