Styles of Music

Music to Relax By

I play music to fit my moods. If I'm breaking the speed limit, I play Sammy Hagar singing "I can't drive 55!" If I feel unloved, I listen to Bonny Rait singing "I can't make you love me." If I'm remembering my youth, I play Credence Clearwater Revival or Bob Seger. Songs evoke memories: Don Henley singing "The Boys of Summer" reminds me of lost love, Lady Gaga singing "Poker Face" reminds me of dealing with the Russian mafia in Detroit (don't ask me why). And so forth. Then there is a class of music that doesn't make me think. It helps me not to think.

CAT POWER

Charlyn Marie Marshall (born January 21, 1972), also known as Chan Marshall or by her stage name Cat Power, is an American singer-songwriter. Cat Power was originally the name of Marshall's first band, but has come to refer to her musical projects with various backing bands. I think that Metal Heart is one of my Cat Power favorites.

HYBRID

Hybrid is a Welsh electronic music group based in Swansea comprising Mike Truman, Chris Healings and Charlotte James.

PINK FLOYD

Though they need no introduction, Pink Floyd naturally heads the list with The Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason albums - ahead of The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. It's slightly embarrassing to speculate how many times I've listened to each album. Suffice to say it's a large number.

METALICA

I do like all of Metalica's music. Some is for listening up. Some is for listening down.

HALESTORM

Lizzy Hale is just about my favorite female vocalist - at least in my top 5.  For those of you who have read my blog for a while, there have been a few Halestorm blogs. Most of Halestorm's music is a long way from easy listening. However, it's part of that playlist, so I'm simply including it - partly to plug the band if you haven't heard of them.

All I want do is Make Love to You

This song was originally recorded by Heart, but I prefer the Halestorm rendition.
