War and Peace

  1. Wisdom in a nutshell. Bad things can happen suddenly, and while I'm peaceful by nature, I prefer to be prepared for the eventuality.

    1. Walk softly and carry a big stick. --or-- a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Cassul with hollow point ammo.

    2. That's a pretty big stick, LL!

    3. It makes a big noise too. And leaves a really broad wound channel behind, blasting out bone fragments, pieces of organs, blood and viscera on the way out.

    4. That's what James Caan used in the movie "Alien Nation".

    5. It's one of my daily carry weapons. You didn't even notice that I wore it. But don't feel bad. I went to lunch with Old NFO at Hodad's in San Diego and he didn't notice that I had a S&W 460V. The Alaskan is smaller by degree, shorter barrel, still a monster.

    6. You carry a pistol chambered in 454 Casull?

      YOW!!!

    7. The .460 S&W has a heavier punch. But yes, I have both.

The interesting thing about both handguns is that they will chamber .45 Colt, which is what I use as basic practice ammo because it's less expensive. If I'm going to crank off 50 rounds of .460, it's going to cost 2X as much as .45 Colt (long Colt).

    8. My wife typically practices with 38 spl in her pistol, but once in a while I'll slip a full-bore 357 load into it.

The first couple of times I did it she got a bit ticked off, but now she just laughs when I do it.

  5. More ubiquitously,

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

But that requires thinking. Yours lays it out more dramatically.
