Stuck in the 80's & 90's

I know that the 1980's and 1990's have passed, but I like the music and the time-machine factor that listening brings.

Robert Palmer (died in 2003 of a heart attack at age 54) was the son of a British Naval Intelligence Officer, and was heavily influenced by listening to Armed Forces Radio as a young man. He lived in the Bahamas in the early 1990's and moved to Switzerland (next door to Tina Turner) later in the decade.

This song, "Simply Irresistible", was first released in 1988 in his album, "Heavy Nova" and also appeared in two subsequent albums. Along with "Addicted to Love" and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On", it was one of those iconic songs that brings back the age, the vibe and the scene of the late 80's and early 90's.

Addicted to Love (lyrics)

Your lights are on, but you're not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another kiss is what it takes

You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another kiss is all you need

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love

You see the signs, but you can't read
You're runnin' at, a different speed
You heart beats, in double time
Another kiss, and you'll be mine a one track mind

You can't be saved
Oblivion is all you crave
If there's some left for you
You don't mind if you do

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love

Might as well face it, you're addicted to love

Robert Palmer became famous because he identified the 'human condition' and locked in sync with everyone else.

  3. Great song. The 80s were a mini-60s when it came to music, in my NSHO.

  4. Oh now that takes me back! I remember wishing I could look as gorgeous as those guitar playing women with their super red lippy!

  5. I was a little late in getting MTV, but when I did, I (like the other zombies) sat and watched video after video, and some days that meant 100s of those Robert Palmer videos. I liked The Power Station, which was some guys from Duran Duran and Palmer, and they did Some Like it Hot and Bang a Gong...I wore out that cassette!

  6. Juliette - I'm sure that if you put on your outfit and strutted your stuff, you'd be just as "simply irresistible".

Race - Watching these videos does make you a zombie - but they seemed so much better back then than they are today.

Opus - Watch the video and you're back there again.
