Settled Science?

A rigorous and comprehensive meta-analysis of data collected between 1973 and 2011 finds that among men from Western countries, sperm concentration declined by more than 50 percent, with no evidence of a 'leveling off' in recent years. These findings strongly suggest a significant decline in male reproductive health that has serious implications beyond fertility and reproduction, given recent evidence linking poor semen quality with higher risk of hospitalization and death.
Hagai Levine, Niels Jørgensen, Anderson Martino-Andrade, Jaime Mendiola, Dan Weksler-Derri, Irina Mindlis, Rachel Pinotti, Shanna H. Swan. Temporal trends in sperm count: a systematic review and meta-regression analysis. Human Reproduction Update, 2017; 1 DOI: 10.1093/humupd/dmx022
It's striking how the dates cited above reflect the dramatic rise of the "metrosexual male", or "lady boy" as they are often tagged. They are men who do not (openly) identify as homosexual, but could turn tranny and do a Jenner at the drop of a hat. They're as comfortable in their female partner's panties (with the junk rolled under and back) as they are in boxers. They drop the toilet seat and urinate from a seated position.

These are the men who buy make-up at the mall and call it "color correcting their skin", often wear man-buns, and at the same time vigorously assert that they are heterosexual.
In the first systematic review and meta-analysis of trends in sperm count, researchers from the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai report a significant decline in sperm concentration and total sperm count among men from Western countries. The study is published today in Human Reproduction Update, a leading journal in the fields of Reproductive Biology and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

By screening 7,500 studies and conducting a meta-regression analysis on 185 studies between 1973 and 2011, the researchers found a 52.4 percent decline in sperm concentration, and a 59.3 percent decline in total sperm count, among men from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand who were not selected based on their fertility status. In contrast, no significant decline was seen in South America, Asia and Africa, where far fewer studies have been conducted.
The study also indicates the rate of decline among Western men is not decreasing: the slope was steep and significant even when analysis was restricted to studies with sample collection between 1996 and 2011.
I think that it may be useful to test the American Congressional males to see where they are on the curve. No need to test Sen. McCain. He is using the brain tumor defense...and to be fair, it's not a bad defense. Maybe test Congress for brain tumors (both male and female this time - test Maxine Waters twice) while you're at it.

  1. Here in Liberal Long Beach, I see a lot of these so-called "men" wandering about. Even if you're out of visual range to detect their "Man" buns, you can still spot them by the way they walk.

If *I* would have walked like that when I was that age I never would have a had any female friends, let alone any serious female friends.

I know there's a huge LBGT community here in Long Beach, but they generally stay in certain areas. These young "men" are everywhere.....

    1. It's fashionable to be a feminine man these days. For some reason, women really like having a male around to share make-up tips with, get 'waxed' with, etc.

    2. Not any woman I'd want to be with.....but then I guess I'm "old fashioned"!

    4. Some women I know have enjoyed the company of homosexual men. Married them even. I don't get it.

  2. Remember that 70% of published papers don't verify when outside parties attempt to replicate them.

The "Spermpocalpyse" study is examined on Watts Up With That and is shown to be conflicting with other results and bigger studies.

    1. I am guilty here of quoting from one study and extrapolating to metrosexual men without adequate foundation.

      But I like bashing them.

I have a problem with people dissing 'man buns'. Don't get me wrong, I don't like girly men. But I don't think the Samurai were girly men.
    Nor Sumo wrestlers.

I think it would be interesting to do a study on the fertility of men and women to see if the sudden seeming explosion of LGBTDFG whatever the heck they call themselves, is related - as you intimate with your highlighted portion.

Congress is disgusting. Maybe they are all pod people.

    1. I meant to add that I wouldn't be surprised if our diet had a lot to do with it. We are far removed from a natural diet. And we'll stay that way if companies like Monsanto have anything to say about it.

    2. The Samurai lived in a different time and place. Sumo culture (a wrestling cult) is unique as well. Most of the guys I see with man buns are not "put together" and squared away. A lot of them have the feminine vibe or are hippies. So my bias screams out of the sun like a P-51 strafing a locomotive and train.

I agree with you on both diet and exercise being important to a healthy life and IF there is a problem, that's more likely the root cause.

Agreed. All the "man" buns I see here in the LBC are on sloppy, slovenly, dirty, unkempt "men".

And they're usually carrying a "man bag" of some sort or another, and prancing along the street.

I'm not automatically prejudiced against gay men. I know a lot of them from being involved in the music/recording/broadcasting biz, and you'd never know most of them were gay unless you talked to them for more than a few minutes and actually got to know them.

How you live your life is none of my business, unless it impacts my life in a negative way.

Franklin wanted our national motto to be "Mind Your Business". I wonder how things might have turned out if we chose that instead of "E Pluribus Unum".

He also wanted the turkey to be our national bird, but that's a subject for another day.....

    1. I realize that if you read the blog you might consider me to be anti-gay or racist, but I'm neither. Lifestyle choices speak for themselves and I seriously don't care until you rub my face in it. But that's true of many things, well beyond and apart from homosexuality and national origin. "Asshole" is a category all its own and it transcends all else. Nobody likes to be f-ed with or taken advantage of. People who have tried to do that to me have lived to regret it. I pay 10% of my earnings as a tithe before God, I give to charities that I believe in and am overly generous with people who work for me. Christian tolerance does not extend to A-holes.

  7. Thanks for the science post but there's few pieces of the jigsaw puzzle missing. Foaming coffee drinks, onesies and unicorn outfits.

I'm not saying that all of that makes you vote Democrat but I'm not saying it doesn't, either.
